An independent family-run haulage company has collapsed into liquidation in another major blow for the freight sector. Gibbs Transport Limited, based in Berkshire, appointed liquidators on 30 June, according to the London Gazette.

The announcement was published by the Gazette in the early hours of July 6, with Rob Keyes and David Taylor of KRE Corporate Recovery Limited appointed as liquidators. At this early stage, there is no news on how many job cuts can be expected due to the decision.

Gibbs Transport Ltd, based at Coln Industrial Estate in Slough, claims to be an “independent, family-run business” with a staggering 80 depots located throughout the UK.

The company has a “comprehensive fleet of vehicles” with everything from small vans to massive payload curtain-sided vehicles. The company claims to have offered a nationwide same-day UK delivery service and pallet distribution.

Gibbs Transport explained that they deliver haulage work on a contractual basis, but have also been available for one-off jobs. Alongside deliveries, Gibbs Transport has also offered storage and warehousing facilities in a boost for customers.

The company said its storage facilities are “ideally located” a few minutes from Heathrow Airport. Gibbs explained that they offer around-the-clock service 24 hours a day and seven days a week, with all content fully insured. The company said they pride themselves on offering a “personal service at all times”, ensuring each customer is always treated as an individual.

It comes after another family run freight firm plunged into administration just days ago. The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has recently suggested that 100s of firms were at risk of closing with insolvencies “tipped to rise”.

The business is set to be a loss to the local area, with the company previously receiving mostly positive feedback from customers.

Customer Guy Crevald previously said: “[I] have had a few deliveries from Gibbs and the driver is always helpful. They do have to work to a certain set of rules but all the drivers that have delivered to me have been helpful and will usually do what they can to help.”

Another customer, David Welling, added: “We have been working with Gibbs for a number of years and can’t fault the service from booking to delivery of goods.”
