Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity ‘takes nosedive’ in US: ‘It can’t get worse’.H

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were savaged by a royal commentator who claimed their public perception even in the US can’t get “any worse”. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have seen their popularity in both the US and the UK gradually plummet since they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.

Harry and Meghan immigrated across the pond for a new life, financially independent, from the Firm. But their countless accusations against the royals are thought to have played a key role in the public turning their back on them. Now, a royal commentator has weighed in on their popularity across the pond and compared it to that of Britain.

Last May, a YouGov survey found Harry and Meghan ranked just above disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, with approval ratings of 33% and 22%, respectively.

In June, another poll from YouGov America showed that Meghan’s favourability was at 27%. For comparison, in the third quarter of 2025, she was liked by 37% and disliked by 22%, giving her a net approval rating of +15.

Now, American journalist Paula Froelich spoke to The Daily Expresso’s latest episode and gave her two cents on the popularity decline.

She told host JJ Anisiobi: “Americans had a lot of goodwill for them. A lot. They have just taken a nosedive ever since. I don’t know if it could get any worse.”

Ms Froelich added: “Their popularity is around about where they are in England, 20%.”

America’s shift towards the couple became evident after a number of US publications ran scathing reports on their life across the pond, with Hollywood bible Vanity Fair among the first magazines to take aim at them.

At the time, the couple’s attorney, Michael J. Kump, responded to the claims, saying that they “seem calculated to play into the misogynistic characterisation of her bossing her husband around”.
