A number of UK supermarkets and stores have announced food and product recall warnings this week, with shoppers being told not to use certain items. Customers have been alerted to specific products due to potential health concerns.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a warning to shoppers regarding a packaging mistake for snacks available at Asda and Sainsbury’s. It has also advised customers to check codes on eggs following the detection of Salmonella. Meanwhile, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has released an alert for products available at Next. Here are the most recent product recall warnings you need to know about…
Asda and Sainsbury’s snacks
Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have been withdrawn from Asda and Sainsbury’s stores after they were placed in Skinny Whip Toffee bar packaging, which fails to list peanuts as an ingredient.
This means the product presents a possible health hazard to anyone with a peanut allergy. Consequently, the affected bars have been withdrawn from Asda and Sainsbury’s shoppers.
The FSA stated: “Halo Foods Ltd is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product and on their website. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
It added: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.”

Eggs
UK homes and businesses have been put on alert after Salmonella was discovered in eggs originating from Yasensvit Ltd, Ukraine, which are stamped with the code 3UA1012066.

The FSA has urged that all affected eggs be withdrawn from sale and not eaten. It stated: “All eggs with the code 3UA1012066 should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These eggs should not be consumed.
“Consumers should check the code stamped on the egg; do not eat eggs stamped with 3UA1012066. Instead, dispose of them at home.
“These eggs are not sold in large retailers, like supermarkets. Most are used within the catering supply chain; however, some eggs may also be sold at small shops such as corner shops.”
Common symptoms of Salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should remain absent from work, school or nursery until they have subsided for a minimum of 48 hours to prevent spreading the illness to others.

Next shoes
Mint Velvet’s Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals, available through Next, have been withdrawn from sale due to a potential injury hazard. The OPSS stated: “The product presents a risk of injuries as the footbed can become detached from the wedge heel during use.
“If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall, leading to injuries. The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
It continued: “The product has been recalled from end users by Next. Next has contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly. Owners are advised to stop using the product and follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement.”
