King Charles has not seen his youngest grandchildren since 2022 and now there are fears he may not see them again any time soon.

Harry and others’ claims against Daily Mail publisher dismissed

The last fortnight has been such a barrage of ‘will they, won’t they’ stories it’s been hard to keep track of what is and isn’t going to happen during Prince Harry’s return to Britain. At first briefings went out that Meghan Markle and the couple’s children would be joining Prince Harry, with the kids visiting the UK for the first time in four years.

Yet, quicker than you could correctly spell Montecito, there was a U-turn as it was revealed Harry would be travelling alone to London after it was confirmed that the family would not be provided with taxpayer-funded police security.

We still don’t know if Meghan and the children will fly over to Britain to meet King Charles outside of London before Harry’s return to Britain comes to an end.

Personally, I don’t believe Meghan ever intended to bring Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, to the UK. And, I wouldn’t be surprised if she never does again, which would devastate the children’s grandfather, King Charles. Clearly, I am not the only one who thinks this, as royal expert Rob Shuter claims the recent debacle over Harry having an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace withdrawn “was one insult too many”.

According to the gossip columnist on his Naughty But Nice Substack, well-placed sources have said Meghan feels like she and Harry have “bent over backwards” for his relatives, “only to be embarrassed again”. “As far as she’s concerned, she’ll never see them again,” he added.

According to Mr Shuter, the Duchess of Sussex had predicted there may be drama surrounding the Prince‘s UK return and is said to have warned her husband that this would happen.

“She believes every time he reaches out to his family, they find another way to reject him. She’s done. She has no interest in ever putting herself, or her children, through this again.”

That sounds, to me, like she knew something like this would happen but was still more than willing to let chaos strike. She was willing to let the media get whipped up into a frenzy over the thought of a long-awaited reunion between the King and his grandchildren for the first time since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. According to some reports, the children were “very excited” at the prospect.

Then, she was also happy to dash those hopes, all right in the public eye. It’s the ultimate revenge. But it’s the children and the King that I feel sorry for. It won’t be easy for Harry to swallow, either.

According to HELLO! Harry is said to be in “frequent” contact with his father.

It must be difficult for him to share stories and treasured memories with his children, with such a dark cloud of resentment floating over their California home. It’s not easy to put a face to a name when the last time Lili saw her grandfather, she was only one year old.

It’s also not fair on the King, who reportedly “would not pass up the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren,” and was doing everything in his power to make a reunion this week possible.

Personally, I am very grateful to still have four grandparents alive who I can see regularly. The thought of not being able to do so breaks my heart, and I am sure they would agree. King Charles is already 77 and is battling his own undisclosed cancer, so I am sure he would jump at the opportunity to make memories with Archie and Lilibet, no matter how brief.

I just hope a meeting will be possible soon, before it’s too late, but preferably without all the drama. Just keep the trip private – there’s no need to announce it to the world. Just hop on a plane. Life really is too short not to.
