Kirstie Allsopp has torn apart Zack Polanski in a furious rant just hours after the party voted to classify Zionism as a form of racism. On Sunday (October 3), Green Party members passed the motion by 1022 votes to 813 against, at the party’s conference in Brighton. This move sets out that the party is anti-Zionist, defining the term as “an ethnonationalist political project”, while caveating that anti-Zionism should not be equated with antisemitism. The debate has sparked controversy in the run-up to the vote, with members of the party concerned that the working risked alienating Jewish members of the party.

Hours after the news hit the headlines, the Location, Location, Location star turned to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share her disappointment with the party leader online. She penned: “I believe in the right of the state of Israel to exist, therefore I am a Zionist, therefore, according to the Green Party, I am a racist.

“I will keep to myself what I think they are, but electorally they’re toast. The motion was not to condemn Netanyahu, which I would do with bells on, it was to condemn Zionism, full stop.”

She followed up the post by adding: “God, it’s going to be satisfying seeing Zack Polanski get his just desserts on Thursday (October 15).” Party leader Zack, who is currently on the campaign trail to stand in the Holborn & St Pancras by-election, reportedly did not cast a vote.

Members voted against adding a clause to make clear the motion should not be used to “pressure, proscribe or discipline” party members for their affiliation to synagogues or other Jewish groups that describe themselves as Zionist. Four of the party’s MPs, Ellie Chowns, Sian Beryr, and ex-leaders Adrian Ramsay and Carla Denyer – came out to publicly reject the motion.

It comes after Mr Polanski said earlier this week that he believes that the “displacement and genocide of the Palestinian people” is “clearly racism” in an interview with the BBC. He added that he wanted an amendment to call for one Palestinian state in the motion, “because what I want to see is equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians.”
