Good Morning Britain paused today for a troubling update on Boris Johnson. Revealing that the former prime minister was “caught up in a security scare,” the programme explained that Boris had been travelling on a train in Ukraine when another train, just minutes behind him, was hit by a Russian drone strike.
“It is possible, though, that civilians were not the intended target,” journalist Hannah Kings stated. “Ukraine‘s train operator said it was instead highly likely that the strike was meant for a train carrying diplomats that had left the station ahead of schedule, minutes earlier.
“On board would have been former UK prime minister Boris Johnson returning to Poland from a conference in Kyiv.”
Travelling alongside Boris on Sunday was former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt and a number of European security advisers.
According to a translation, rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia said in a Telegram post that former CIA director David Petraeus had been close by on a different train that was still at the station when the drone strike took place.
In her GMB report, King confirmed there were no reports of casualties but noted that Poland’s foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, has urged the international community to double down on support for Ukraine.
Following the incident, Boris has since spoken out on X, condemning Russia‘s president Vladimir Putin. “I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning,” he tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
“What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day – even on civilian railways.

“So far, Putin has been responsible for the deaths of 1700 staff of Ukrzaliznytsia – Ukrainian Railways. They and their daily passengers are absolutely heroic. When are we going to give them the air defences they need? Why won’t we unfreeze Putin’s cash and give it to Ukraine? There is more than €140 billion in a Belgian bank account – and about £10 billion in London. Britain could show a lead.
Boris concluded: “The Ukrainians are going to win – that much was clear from the last three days in their wonderful country. But we will get this dreadful war over much faster if we all get serious and give them what they need and deserve.”
