GB News interrupted for breaking migrant alert as viewers left raging in blow to Burnham

A new investigation has uncovered the forgotten methods migrants continue to use in order to enter Britain. Security sources have told GB News of an uptick in the number of illegal immigrants moving away from small boats and trying to reach the UK in lorries and other vehicles. Speaking to GB News, ex-chief border inspector, John Vine, discussed an increase in incidents of migrants breaking into Britain by hiding in lorries.

In a huge blow to Andy Burnham and the Labour Party, Mr Vine believes the current government have allowed the issue to “fall under the radar”. Speaking to presenters Stephen Dixon and Anne Diamond, he explained: “Before 2018, before the boats started, this was the predominant way in which people illegally came into the UK. It’s just our focus has been taken away from the issue of small boats.

“Unlike migrants, who get into the UK through stowing away on lorries and cars, we have figures for people who get into boats because we count them in. But we’ve never known the extent of illegal migration through stowing away in vehicles because only a certain number of people are caught by the authorities.

Just this week, a Sudanese migrant was killed and others have been injured, as they targeted toll booths on the A26 road about 40 miles from the port of Calais. Many are taking increasing risks, by trying to jump onto moving lorries, to cut through the roofs of the vehicles, in an effort to avoid detection.

Mr Vine also addressed the legal implications for lorry drivers after unsuspecting migrants sneak into their lorries.

He said: “If [the authorities] find people in your vehicle you’ve got some explaining to do and being fined quite heavily. So, this is quite prevalent. It’s not gone away.

It’s just our focus has left this particular form of illegal migration. Naturally, resources have gone to the migrant boat crisis. Not least because politically it’s very, very difficult for the government to persuade people they are tackling it.”

Viewers took to X and shared their frustrations as one user raged: “We got boats because hiding in lorries got harder. Why is it suddenly easier again?”

Another claimed: “This has been going on for decades.”

A third argued: “Any illegal immigrant should be deported immediately. Detention centre then deportation same day if possible. That is the only way to stop it…but the government has to want to do it.”

According to reports, the rise in smuggling attempts by road, comes as increased beach patrols and bad weather have seen a more than 40 per cent reduction so far this year in illegal migrant arrivals by boat.

At the peak of the crisis involving vehicle-borne stowaways in 2015, Border Force detected more than 81,000 migrants at French ports, as they attempted to reach the UK.
