GB News issued a brutal takedown of the future prime minister Andy Burnham after it was confirmed that he would cruise through to Labour leadership uncontested. On the first day of nominations, a total of 322 Labour MPs have formally backed the Makerfield MP to be the next party leader. As the deadline for other candidates to challenge him passes, Burnham is expected to take the most important role within the UK Government on July 20.
This left regular GB News commentator, Peter Bleksley, enraged as he joined Beverly Turner’s show and unleashed fury. The former Metropolitan Police detective raged: “We have the manufactured messiah of Makerfield doing social media videos with a staggering lack of gravitas, seriousness, maturity, intellect and this man is going to lead the country. He stated: “What we actually need are grown-up, serious, intellectually capable politicians to get this country out of the staggering mess that it’s in.”
In his brutal verdict, Paul fumed: “And what are we having, a silver-tongued, easy on the eye, rampant socialist, yet another one, parachuted through a manufactured process into No.10.
“And if we thought Starmer was bad, believe you me, brace yourselves because Burnham’s on his way.”
With 322 nominations from Labour MPs, this leaves 81 others who could nominate another contender, the minimum needed to get on to the ballot.
However, as convention dictates that the outgoing leader does not nominate anyone, there are no longer enough undeclared MPs to back an alternative to Burnham.
Addressing the votes, the former Greater Manchester mayor said he was “deeply grateful” to the Labour MPs who nominated him and said their support comes from across the party.

The Prime Minister-in-waiting said: “That is the circuit breaker I am offering: power out of Westminster, an economy rewired for ordinary people, and good growth in every postcode.
“I want to empower MPs to bring the experiences of their constituents into the heart of government, and harness the full breadth of our Labour movement, drawing on all its traditions and beliefs in pursuit of a common purpose.
“I want to thank every colleague who has nominated me for their commitment to that vision,” Burnham concluded in his social media post.
The only three Cabinet members who did not nominate Mr Burnham today were Housing Secretary Steve Reed, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and party chairwoman Anna Turley.
