Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy was branded “delusional” by frustrated Sky News viewers as he spoke about Keir Starmer‘s future as Prime Minister. Sky News host Sophy Ridge quizzed Lammy about whether there is a “timetable” for Starmer’s resignation, as reports flew around his future over the weekend. She asked: “Just finally, Lisa Nandy spoke to my colleague Trevor Phillips over the weekend and said the Prime Minister has got to take his own decision about whether he wants to take the fight forward. I mean, you’re obviously close to Keir Starmer. What is his frame of mind? Is there a chance that he might set out a timetable to leave his spot?”
Lammy replied: “Let me be really clear. Keir Starmer remains the most resilient person I know in my life. I spoke to him twice yesterday. He has a strength of character and fighting experience. There will be no timetables. What there is, is getting on with the business of government. Really crystal clear about that. At the moment, there is no contest. What there is, is his determination to deliver for the British people, accelerate the pace, accelerate the pace over the coming months, much to do.”

Ridge responded: “So just be crystal clear, no timetable for departure set up by Keir Starmer.”
Lammy confirmed: “There will be no timetable for departure.”
Viewers rushed to social media to share their thoughts, as one said: “Keep him in post. Reform need him there to sleepwalk into election victory.”
Another added: “By resilient he means tone deaf,” as a third chimed in: “Lammy- another disappointment….read the room David, read the room…. and try to remember if you can the famous words of McMillan…. “events dear boy, events”. Well the events are clearly obvious, apart from the headbangers business and the public think we should be back in the EU.”
A fourth raged: “Delusional David Defends Delusional Starmer. Sophy Ridge asks David Lammy the obvious question: will Keir Starmer set out a timetable to leave? Lammy, with a straight face: ‘Let me be really clear, Keir Starmer remains the most resilient person I know in my life.’ No, David.
“Keir Starmer is the most delusional man in the country. He’s toast. Everyone can see it. The polls are bleeding out, the knives are being sharpened in the shadows, and even your own colleagues are openly positioning themselves. Yet here you are on national TV, robotically defending the indefensible. Why do they keep doing this to themselves? Parading on TV like cult members, praising a leader who’s clearly finished. It’s not resilience, it’s denial. This isn’t a matter of if anymore. It’s when.”
