The Reform UK leader gave a press conference ahead of the Budget.

Nigel Farage ripped into Andy Burnham over his bid to reverse Brexit at a Reform UK press conference today. The Reform leader hit out at the Prime Minister’s “completely out of date ideas” as he lays the groundwork to move closer to the EU ahead of a summit next month.
Mr Farage said: “I would say to the Prime Minister as the Brussels summit of November 20 gets ever closer that he has no mandate whatsoever to agree anything in that summit.
“It would not only be a betrayal of the greatest democratic exercise in the history of this country. But also a betrayal of what he promised the voters of Makerfield just a few short months ago.
“None of this legitimately can be done from a democratic perspective without a general election.”
Farage ‘up for the fight again’
Farage says he led the campaign to leave the EU and implementing Brexit has been “a failure of our political class”.
He adds: “Am I up for the fight again? You bet your bloomin’ life I am.”

Standards probe a ‘political tool’
Mr Farage claims if he even acknowledges a Parliamentary standards investigation into his conduct, he would “be in breach”.
Some people think “standards are being used as a politcal tool”, he adds, but he “couldn’t possibly comment”.
Farage says re-joining EU would be ‘utterly moronic’
The UK’s economy is “nothing to write home about”, Mr Farage says, but it is “far worse across the Channel”.
Re-joining the EU would be “utterly moronic”, he says.
He urges Brits to ask themselves whether the “European approach” is the right one.
Farage hits back at Burnham over Brexit
Mr Farage says he “never made a single false promise” over Brexit after the Prime Minister suggested the British people were potentially lied to about its benefits.
“The opportunities of Brexit have not been delivered,” he adds.
It was “an opportinity for a great escape”.
Farage lays into the Tories
Mr Farage claims the Tories did not make the most of Brexit and urges the British public not to vote for the Conservatives so they are not let down again.
Taking aim at Kemi Badenoch, he says: “She had the chance to get rid of thousands of regulations and refused to do so.”
“All they cared about was winning the election,” he adds.

Empty seats in hall down to ‘busy businesses’
Mr Farage says “on Mondays, people in businesses tend to be rather busy”.
“Many of those that are here, it’s going to cost them a great deal of money,” he adds.
At their conferences, Mr Farage says, the party gets crowds “like no other British political party has done in modern times”.
Press questions
Mr Farage and Mr Jenrick is now taking questions from the media.
Mr Jenrick says the party has budgeted to meet 3% of GDP by 2030.
On Reform falling in the polls, the Reform UK leader says: “A lot of our voters are just sitting back on their heels at the moment.”
A general election with Europe and immigration at the top of the agenda could “energise them and get them back”, he adds.
Empty seats at Reform press conference
A Conservative Party Spokesman said: “It must be cringingly embarrassing for Farage and Jenrick to be forced to address a half-empty room.
“At her pre-Budget press conference, Kemi Badenoch addressed a room of over 300 passionate activists. Reform have already stolen numerous policies that the Conservatives have previously announced for their ‘rescue plan’.
“Now it looks as if they need to steal some of our activists to fill a room.”
‘Burnham fiddling while Rome burns’
Jenrick says “Benefits Burnham” is “fiddling while Rome burns”.
He urges Brits to vote for a different party: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.”
“Break the glass, choose change […] and let this country grow again,” Mr Jenrick says.

‘Barmy’ EU laws scrapped
“Barmy” EU laws still on the UK’s statute book will be revoked, Mr Jenrick says.
He adds that Tory leader Kemi Badenoch did not do while she had the chance in government.
Families promised £1,300 ‘in year one’
Mr Jenrick is now outlining his proposed economic measures, as he summarised earlier on X.
He promises to clamp down on benefits paid to “foreigners” and restore the two child benefit cap.
“It’s a matter of basic fairness,” the MP says.
Climate subsidies will go, Mr Jenrick adds.
“If Ed Miliband wants to buy a heat pump, you know what, he can buy it himself,” he tells supporters.
He also promises £1,300 for the average family “in year one”.
The tax-free allowance will go from £12,500 to 15,000 — £500 back for every taxpayer.
The State Pension will also be “untaxed for everyone”.
Mr Jenrick also says £250 will be cut from energy bills.

Jenrick slams Burnham
“Burnham likes to say he is radical, but nothing he is talking about amounts to very much,” Mr Jenrick says.
He then predicts there will be increases on gambling and bank levies, “sin taxes”, a “vague and belated promise on defence” and cuts scheduled for “the back end of the Parliament” in the Budget.
“Labour lacks the balls to make any sort of cut,” he adds.
“400 Labour MPs and they haven’t got a backbone between them.”
John Healey is an ‘ostrich’
Mr Jenrick compares the Chancellor to an ostrich.
“And when the Chancellor buries his head in the sand, the rest of us, we’re left staring at his you know what,” the Newark MP says.
The country is “maxed out, taxed out, worn out,” he adds.

‘We’re the joke now’
Mr Jenrick compares the UK economy to once “joke economies”.
“We pay more to borrow than every other G7 country,” he says.
“We’re the joke now, and the punchline is your savings, your mortgage, your small business.
“Going bust, it happens slowly and then all at once.
“We’re at the limit of the credit card.”
Robert Jenrick takes to the stage
Robert Jenrick takes to the stage and says: “It’s time for the truth: Britain is broke.”
National debt is “in the red”, he adds. As are inflation and consumer confidence.
“Together that is the story of Britain in 2026,” Mr Jenrick says. “The state is broke — and so are many of the people who pay for it.”
Brits have “been had” and “can’t take any more”, the former Tory MP says.
‘There’s uproar in this country’
Mr Farage says the country is in “uproar” over the number of migrants coming to the UK in small boats.
Under free movement, many people with EU passports from elsewhere in the world would be able to come to Britain, he suggests.

‘We voted for Brexit to free ourselves from financial failure’
Mr Farage says Brits “voted for Brexit to free ourselves from financial failure” but this has been “squandered”.
He accuses the Prime Minister of having “out of date ideas” as regards freedom of movement in the European Union.
“He has no mandate whatsoever to agree anything” at the upcoming summit with the EU, Mr Farage adds.
He added that it would be a “betrayal” of the Brexit referendum result and his constituents in Makerfield.
No changes can be made without a general election, the Reform UK leader adds.
Debt ‘out of control’
Nigel Farage has walked out to the sound of Big Ben bongs.
“Britain is broke,” he said. Debt has been “the elephant in the room for many, many years,” he asserts.
It took several hundred years for the national debt to get to one trillion. Then it got to two trillion in “just over a decade” and now it is “out of control”.
Reform presser kicks off at 2pm
Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick are up at 2pm for Reform UK’s press conference ahead of the Budget.
The Express’s Whitehall editor Jonathan Walker is in the room where Reform are distributing a 36-page “Economic Rescue Plan” document to the assembled press.
Mr Farage and Mr Jenrick will speak on a platform surrounded by activists with the message “Britain is broke” behind them.
Sir Sadiq Khan enters Labour’s migrant row
Sadiq Khan has claimed that millions of foreign nationals who arrived during the so-called “Boris wave” should not have to wait longer for settlement rights.
The Mayor of London, who wants Prime Minister Andy Burnham to lead Britain back into the EU, said he was “not in favour of changing rules retrospectively”.
The explosive intervention will be a blow to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who has insisted that changing the qualifying period from five years to at least 10 years is essential to prevent a fiscal time bomb.
Ms Mahmood claimed it would cost £10billion to support low-wage or unemployed migrants if they are given indefinite leave to remain. Other estimates have suggested the cost will be far higher.
Burnham could pledge to rejoin EU in next manifesto
Andy Burnham hinted he could fight the next general election on a promise to take the UK back into the EU.
The Prime Minister said he would not “move ahead of the public” but that he wanted to secure a better post-Brexit deal.
He argued the existing agreement is “harder” than what was proposed at the 2016 referendum.
Amid speculation he could call an early general election seeking his own mandate to rejoin following a bounce in the polls, Mr Burnham insisted to ITV’s GMB that there would not be a ballot “any time soon” but left the door open to including the pledge in the next manifesto.
Reform to set out 60 economic policies
Reform UK’s Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick will unveil 60 economic policies aimed at boosting the economy at a press conference this afternoon ahead of the Budget.
Treasury spokesman Mr Jenrick said: “Everything reported so far suggests this will be a ‘mañana budget’, with John Healey dodging the tough decisions our country needs.
“We can’t continue like this. The country can’t wait 10 years for Andy Burnham to work out a plan – we need action now.
“Reform would bring forward more than 60 job-creating measures in our first budget to kickstart the economy. These common sense policies cost the taxpayer nothing – it’s a no-brainer.
“Reform UK has the plan to make the economy work again: spend less, tax less, borrow less, and finally put the British people first.”
Mr Farage added: “The British public is frankly fed up with successive governments dodging the big decisions.
“It’s clear that urgent action is required. Reform’s proposals will create a vibrant, growing private sector that delivers well-paid jobs for British citizens.”
