Three people have been left injured following a shooting incident in the centre of Braintree.
Essex Police officers are currently on the ground investigating a targeted firearms incident at Market Place in the town centre.
The incident occurred at approximately 10.10pm on Monday, August 31.
All three injured parties were swiftly taken to hospital, though officers have confirmed that none are thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
One individual has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
Local residents have reported sighting a police helicopter circling overhead, along with a significant number of police and ambulance vehicles at the scene.
Detective Inspector Richard Trower said: “At this stage we believe all those involved in this incident know each other.
“We do not believe this was a random incident but instead directed by one specific group of people towards another specific group of people.

“We also do not believe this incident poses an ongoing threat to the public.
“Four men or boys aged in their mid-teens to mid-20s were seen leaving the area and work to identify and locate those involved are ongoing.
“There is currently a large and visible police presence in the town centre and we expect to remain there into the morning as we carry out enquiries.

“We will provide an update with further information when we can”.
