Today’s instalment of GB News was halted as host Camilla Tominey issued a breaking news announcement about Sir Keir Starmer after he welcomed progress on the US-Iran Deal. The Prime Minister said the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened with “unconditional and unrestricted” access for shipping.
He added: “My Government will continue to do everything we can to protect British people from the impact of this conflict. We will work with our international partners to seize this moment and achieve a long-term diplomatic settlement.” As the breaking news banner flashed at the bottom of the screen, Tominey quizzed her guest, Megan Kenyon from The New Statesman, about assertions Sir Keir is “eyeing his legacy” as he considers calls to step down.

The broadcaster quoted a piece in the Observer which said, “with him having to dig his heels in and say, ‘I can go the distance and last for 10 years,’ the journalist seems to be suggesting, ‘No, he realises his time is at an end, and he now wants to establish his legacy.’”
Tominey asked: “What is this obsession with prime ministers trying to establish their legacy? He’s only been in post for two years?” In a blow to Sir Keir, Tominey later stated: “Is his legacy just U-turns, flip-floppery and resets?”
She added: “There is nothing totemic which is going to sum up Starmerism, there isn’t some great thing like establishing the NHS… He just hasn’t been in post enough.”
GB News viewers commented on the breaking alert on X, with one saying: “Sadly, he has no intention of stepping down. Unfortunately, he’s in a better place than two weeks ago. This by -election is a big deflection which helps him!”
Another said: “His legacy, WTF does that mean?” A third penned: “Starmer’s legacy? He is the most unpopular PM in living memory, who ignored one of the biggest public rejections ever of his disastrous no-growth socialist policies.”
