Donald Trump suffered a devastating loss in the US midterm elections.
Andy Burnham reacts to US midterm election results
GB News briefly paused their live coverage after Andy Burnham shared his reaction to the US president’s shock defeat. The 2026 US midterms have delivered a crushing defeat for Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Democrats seized control of both chambers of Congress dealing a devastating blow to the president.
The prime minister reacted to Trump’s loss but his comments sparked outrage among viewers. Burnham began: “Well, President Trump has accepted the results and I feel the world has an opportunity now to unite around the issue that is affecting us all.
“That is the cost of living,” he added. “That has been the issue I have put front and centre in my first three months in Downing Street.”
He continued: “I can’t get people’s cost of living pressures down until the conflict in the Middle East is resolved. The conflict in Ukraine, started by Russia. These are the things we have to focus on now. And I hope the world has a moment to do that and certainly my calls with leaders that’s what I’ll be asking everybody to do.”

Burnham’s comments sparked fury from viewers who hit out at the prime minister on X.
One raged: “‘The world'” can now focus on the cost of living, says the man who’s been in charge of ours for 100 days.”
Another fumed: “What a load of rubbish. Not Trump who has destroyed the UK. That’s on you.”
“Because Democrats won mid terms? The cost of living has been rising before that and even more so with Labour. Seriously I was comfortable under all the Tory years but about 2 years of Labour and Im genuinely worried about paying bills for the first time,” a third vented.
While a fourth supported Burnham’s comments, writing, “Spot on.”
The president was not on the ballot, but voters delivered a damning verdict on his unpopular administration.
Trump now faces his final two years in office with his authority weakened in Congress.
