GB News crisis as ‘at least 60 people’ axed behind the scenes

The channel is taking further action to reduce costs.

GB News bloodbath as stars axed behind the scenes

GB News is facing a crisis, with a further 60 to 90 people reportedly set to lose their jobs as the channel looks to reduce costs following years of heavy financial losses. The channel is home to several high-profile presenters, as well as politicians including Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nigel Farage. On the latest episode of Daily Expresso, host JJ Anisiobi and James Walker, Associate Editor at the Daily Express, discussed the upcoming cuts and questioned whether the channel is “finished”. “It’s looking tough for GB News at the minute,” James said.

“Yes they’re doing well in the ratings… but they’ve just had to cut roughly a third of their work force.

“I’ve seen a lot of really good people from GB News saying they’re leaving over the past few weeks. There seems to be a real exodus there.”

James explained that the majority of the cuts are expected to affect staff working on the website, with several senior behind-the-scenes employees already having lost their jobs.

“A lot of those top staff behind the scenes have now been axed. It’s not looking good for GB News,” James declared.

JJ added that he had heard similar concerns from someone working at the channel.

“A friend of mine that works there, I bumped into him at a Reform conference… and he’s a very good journalist. He loved working at GB News. But he also said between 60 to 90 people would be losing their jobs.”

JJ acknowledged that GB News has been losing money since its launch, although its losses have reportedly decreased in 2026.

“I can’t put my finger on why it’s now a problem,” JJ added.

Despite its financial difficulties, the pair noted that GB News continues to outperform several of its rivals in terms of ratings, including Sky News and TalkTV.

“It seems to be that they’re willing to lose less money than they were before, so the cuts are starting,” James said.

He continued: “There’s also some big systemic problems. Latest figures show the channel has lost £131 million. You can only take those losses for so long, so they’re starting to make cuts to level that out and to keep the channel going for longer.”

The pair also discussed concerns over the performance of some of the channel’s biggest shows, with insiders reportedly suggesting that programmes expected to attract large audiences have struggled to deliver.

JJ revealed that the shows in question include those fronted by politicians such as Farage and Rees-Mogg. Instead, The Camilla Tominey Show and Patrick Christys Tonight are now reportedly among the channel’s top performers.

With the channel continuing to face financial pressure, James questioned how much longer it could sustain its losses.

“It will be interesting to see how long GB News can sustain these current losses. If it keeps losing money at the rate that it is, I would say, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’ll last very long,” he said.

JJ suggested that the pressure could intensify further, with the channel potentially facing new competition from Reform, which is planning to launch its own news channel.

“There are huge plans with Reform TV. They are essentially going to become GB News,” JJ said.
