Prince William has been dealt a major blow after the release of a controversial book by Earl Spencer, royal experts have claimed. Last week, Earl Spencer released his book “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister”. The book was intended to be a celebration of Diana’s life following her tragic 1997 death. While it did celebrate Diana and who she was, it also contained very damaging accusations and allegations that could have impacted the monarchy. This includes the claim that King Charles acted like a “lottery winner” when his ex-wife Diana, the mother of his two sons, died. Buckingham Palace issued a statement about how grief can “cloud” memory.

While his uncle’s book contained these damaging claims about his father and other members of the Royal Family, Prince William – Diana’s eldest son – has made no comment about the book. It is believed he was informed about it weeks ago by his uncle, and on the same day as the rest of the world.

Talking about how “unfair” it has all been on Prince William, The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson said on the Royal Exclusive show: “I just think it’s unfair that he (William) gets dragged into it.

“I think it’s unfair that his work and his engagements are being brought into this book by his uncle, and he wasn’t told what was in it.”

Royal expert Ingrid Seward, who appeared as a guest on the podcast, added: “I think William is behaving absolutely wonderfully. He must be furious inside.”

Although William himself has not said he is furious, various sources have said this is the case. A royal source told RadarOnline.com: “William is beyond furious that all of this has been dragged into public again. For him, this is not ancient royal history or material for another book – it is his mother, his father and the most traumatic period of his childhood.

“He has spent years wanting Diana’s memory treated with dignity rather than endlessly turned into fresh controversy. The fact that these allegations are now coming from his own uncle makes the situation particularly painful.

“William understands that Charles Spencer has his own memories and his own relationship with Diana. But there is a feeling that publishing claims this incendiary inevitably forces William and Harry back into events they experienced as grieving children, which has led William to become beyond furious over its release.

“The timing has also caused huge anger. The 30th anniversary of Diana’s death is approaching, and instead of allowing her sons to remember her privately, another battle has erupted over who said what during that terrible week.”
