Meghan just issued a big Archie and Lilibet update – her critics will scream ‘hypocrite’.H

They’ve only been back a couple of weeks but already Prince Harry and Meghan Markle must have Buckingham Palace staff starting to pull their hair out. It’s not because the Sussexes sit on the fence, it’s because one minute they hop down one side of the fence and then the next they leap over and stand squarely on the opposite side.

Take ‘privacy’ for example: the Sussexes have jetted across the world to preach for more privacy on social media and have even fought legal High Court cases. It seems their raison de vivre. In fact for ages in the US they never showed their children, so obsessed they were about shielding them from the public eye.

That’s completely fair enough and their right to do so. After all, Princess Lilibet is only five years old and Prince Archie, seven.

Both had started new schools this month only for Harry and Meghan to have pulled them out within days over security concerns about the school run.

Yet last weekend they were accused of “hypocrisy” after sharing a video on Instagram of their young children as they settle into life here in the UK.

In a montage of phone-captured footage, the family are seen in what may be the countryside out with their dog, and Harry on a boat in a pond fishing with the kids.

It opens with Meghan and husband Harry hand in hand, with the Duchess turning towards the camera and playfully shouting “come on, you”.

One touching clip appears to show Lilibet cycling with a doll in the baby bike seat as Archie runs past her, and it appears one of the youngsters is warming their feet by the fireplace in another.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield accused them of “hypocrisy” by stressing: “If privacy is genuinely the priority, the most effective strategy is simple… stop broadcasting your family life to millions of strangers.

“Every hyper-curated glimpse of the children, the dogs, the countryside, and their domestic routine invites more attention, more questions, and more interest in where and how they are living!”

Others have highlighted how Harry bemoaned in 2017 the evils of social media making people feel inadequate as influencers seek to portray ‘perfect lives’ – and now the couple are curating exactly that image.

King Charles even tried to shield them from the world’s gaze last week by issuing a statement from Buckingham Palace stressing to the world that Harry and Meghan and their children were “private citizens”.

I feel that was him telling the world to leave them be – but also a warning to Harry and Meghan to keep their family private. ]

But the Sussexes responded angrily by claiming they prefer the phrase “public figures”, and then posting images and video of the kids on social media.

Their children have not sought the spotlight, so why shove them on Instagram? Archie and Lilibet do need privacy – from their own mum and dad’s marketing machine.
