There you have it, folks. At PMQs today Andy Burnham admitted he will always put welfare ahead of funding our national security. Protecting a bloated and unsustainable social security black hole over our nation’s safety.

I would be shocked, but then I remember we are dealing with a Labour Government. Their own Work and Pensions Secretary, Pat McFadden admitted it; Labour MPs just want to increase taxes, fund welfare, and stroke their misplaced sense of righteousness.

Yes, we need a safety net for the British people, those who find themselves in times of trouble. But anyone with a basic understanding of Government spending understands it has become bloated, unsustainable and abused. And to put it ahead of protecting the realm betrays the first and most vital duty of a Government.

It is also critically tone death from the Prime Minister who is completely ignoring the threats on our front door.

Argentina is openly making threats to invade the Falklands. Yes, Javier Milei might be using this as a political tactic to distract from his economic mismanagement. But the response from government is muted at best. The silence from our closest ally, America proves how isolated Burnham is making us on the world stage.

China continues to bully and harass democratic nations, from our allies in Taiwan and Lithuania, to threats against our people on British soil. But don’t worry, Andy Burnham found time this week to simper to the Chinese Communist Party President, Xi Jinping.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

The old phrase still rings true. If you want peace, prepare for war.

But this government is doing the opposite. Reservist numbers are being cut. Training exercises reduced. The SAS hamstrung, unable to do what is necessary to ensure our nation’s protection. Isolating ourselves from our oldest, closest, and democratic allies.

Weakness is provocative. And the government is putting a target on this nation’s back by continuing to undermine, underfund, and ignore the needs of our military.

Labour is blind to the international landscape. Burnham only wants one thing: a bloated and crippling welfare budget that slowly suffocates the Treasury, growth, and everything in between.

This cannot stand. The Conservatives will not allow it. We will continue to do our duty, work to secure our nation, and make sure Burnham finally wakes up to the threats both from this spiralling welfare budget and from adversaries abroad.
