Several of the UK’s largest supermarkets have issued urgent food and product recall notices this week. Customers have been warned against consuming or using specific items.
Certain products carry a risk of food poisoning, while others present a broader health hazard to shoppers. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged anyone in possession of the affected items to refrain from eating them and instead seek a full refund.
Meanwhile, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has cautioned shoppers to discontinue use of particular items due to potential risks. Here is a full round-up of every affected product this week…
Primark
The high street fashion store has recalled a purse as it could pose a health risk. The 101 Dalmatians Zip Purse, part of its Disney collection, has been found to contain phthalates at levels above permitted limits.
The OPSS said: “This may cause harm to health and the environment.” The product was sold in UK stores between March and June 2026.
Primark said: “We’ve learned the product does not meet our usual high safety standards. The product has been found to contain phthalates above permitted levels, and this may cause harm to health and the environment.
“Please stop using the product immediately. Please return the product to any of our Primark stores. It is not necessary to show proof of purchase. The returned product will be fully refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience and concerns this may cause.”

Asda
The supermarket has issued a product recall notice for some of its handbags as they were found to pose a “serious chemical risk”. The bags, which are all black, contain “excessive concentrations” of the chemical di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), the OPSS said.
Phthalates are sometimes added to plastic to make it softer and more flexible. They can cause damage to human health, particularly the reproductive system. Children are more vulnerable to their effects.
Asda has recalled the £10 Front Pocket Xbody Bag (product code: 1100258937001), the £16 Opp Tote Bag (product code: 1100260834001), and the £8 Black Nylon Phone Bag (product code: 1100258939001).
The OPSS said: “We recommend that consumers stop using the product immediately. Return the product to any Asda store for a full refund.” Consumers can contact Asda on 0330 053 0111 for further information.

Tesco
The supermarket has recalled its Tesco Finest Caesar & Smoked Bacon Coleslaw over a packaging error. Some packets may contain Tesco Finest Four Cheese Potato Salad instead, which contains mustard. It means the product poses a risk to people with allergies.
The affected batches are the 270g packs with a use-by date of September 4. Tesco said: “If you’ve bought an affected product and have an allergy to mustard, please don’t consume it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”

Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s is recalling its Inspired to Cook Pitted Black Olives after Listeria monocytogenes was found in the product. The recall affects 120g packs with use-by dates of September 6, 7 and 10, 2026.
Listeria monocytogenes symptoms can be similar to flu and may include a high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can become more severe and lead to serious complications such as meningitis.
Customers have been urged not to eat the product and return it to the store for a refund. Anyone seeking further information can visit the Sainsbury’s website or contact its careline on 0800 028 8303.

Waitrose
The supermarket has warned customers not to eat its Waitrose Rhubarb Crumble if they have an allergy. It contains oats (gluten), which is not mentioned on the product label.
The FSA said: “This product contains gluten, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten, or with coeliac disease. If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten or have coeliac disease, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
The 500g pack has a use-by date of August 19, 2026, but is suitable for freezing, so customers may still have it at home.
Waitrose’s recall notice urges: “Please check your home freezer for product. Do not consume. Package up item. Return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”
