Harry Cole slammed Andy Burnham with four words live on air, imploring the prime minister to “sort it out now”. Appearing on TalkTV on Thursday, the journalist erupted into a scathing rant while chatting with presenter Kevin O’Sullivan. “He just does look like a pundit. Nothing against pundits, between the two of us, we make quite a lot of noise as pundits over the years,” Cole joked. “But, he’s not a pundit, he’s a politician!”

“He’s not an active participant in anything. He seems to be commentating on what’s been going on, and actually, I think there’s been some very worrying signs in the last few weeks. So far, every big call he’s kind of got wrong.” Reflecting on the migrant crisis which erupted in Ceuta last month, Cole said, “He was very quick to come out and say, ‘We’re supporting the Spanish Government. Anything we can do to help, la la la.

“Every other European leader went bananas at the Spanish and said, ‘Get a grip, what are you doing?’ as he issued a four-word demand: ‘Sort this out now’, before adding: “And he was out there offering solidarity.”

Giving another example of Burnham’s lack of authority, Cole recalled the PM stating that he would reset the relationship with Donald Trump and have some distance from the US President.

“Well, that distance included him being duped and stupid enough to be texting some prankster pretending to be a White House Chief of Staff,” Cole quipped. “What proper channels are in his place in his office?”

Turning his attention to the recent backlash surrounding the Home Office’s booklet teaching migrants about UK law, Cole noted that Burnham should have responded differently.

“Instead of going ‘Hang on, I’m a human being and I’m a father, and this document doesn’t go anywhere near far enough with protections, and I worry for my family,’ which is the instinct of most normal people in this country. [Instead] he’s just there on the sidelines chirping away, standing in front of this pile of trash, dressed as one of The Two Ronnies looking ridiculous.”

Cole declared, “Come on, get a grip! You’re the prime minister now. You’ve spent a year agitating for this job,” adding that at this point, Burnham could easily have been “replaced” with AI.
