The UK is in its third heatwave of the summer, but temperatures could drop below 10C in the coming weeks as an Arctic blast hits. The latest weather maps from WX Charts show the mercury plunging across the nation on Wednesday, July 22. While temperatures are set to climb into the mid-30s in parts of Britain this week, the weather could take a dramatic turn later in the month.
The weather maps show 12 areas, including towns, cities and national parks, with temperatures below 10C at 12pm on July 22. The coldest part of the nation is expected to be northern Scotland, where conditions could drop as low as 7C. Meanwhile, Carlisle and Edinburgh will see temperatures of 9C while it will be as low as 8C in Stirling and Perth. Parts of North Wales, including Denbigh and Corwen, are also forecast conditions below 10C.

Other parts of the UK will see temperatures in the low teens, including 11C in Manchester, 12C in Liverpool and 14C in London. In the South West, temperatures will be as low as 13C in Exeter and 14C in Plymouth at midday on July 12.
The south coast will also be chillier, with the mercury forecast to fall to 13C in Southampton. Similar conditions are expected in eastern areas of the country, while temperatures in the Midlands will tumble as low as 12C.
According to its long-range forecast for the UK, which runs from Monday, July 13 until Wednesday, July 22, the Met Office is expecting a change in weather across the nation. The forecaster is predicting thunderstorms and spells of wet and windier weather.

The Met Office forecast states: “There will, however, be a risk of thunderstorms spreading into the south of the UK from France at times. Temperatures will be warm or very warm for most, perhaps hot at times in the southwest, but probably not as hot as of late. Later in the period the chance of low pressure increases, which may bring spells of wet and windy weather at times.”
It comes as temperatures remain hot in the UK due to high pressure. There has been extensive sunshine and dry weather across the nation this week, with widespread temperatures of over 30C.
However, humidity levels are lower than during the late June heatwave which means that some areas have been able to cool more readily overnight. The Met Office is also expecting easterly winds over the new few days which will lead to cooler conditions for many.
