John Lewis has issued an urgent recall notice for 15 of its popular products. The retailer is urging customers who have the items to “stop using them immediately” after identifying a serious health risk.
A range of door stops and draught excluders is being withdrawn from customers due to potential asbestos contamination. The products were available for purchase from January 31, 2021, to June 11, 2026. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published the recall notice, which will also be displayed in stores.

It stated: “The products present a risk to health as the marble chips sealed within the doorstops and excluders may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos.
“Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a health risk even at low levels of exposure. The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
Asbestos is known to cause serious lung damage and can even trigger cancer. The OPSS further stated: “The products have been recalled from end users by John Lewis and Partners.
“We recommend owners stop using the products immediately and keep them out of reach of children.” Those in possession of the doorstops must follow the correct disposal guidance.
Should the product remain undamaged, it should be placed inside a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-taped, clearly labelled, and stored in a secure location away from children. If the item is damaged, clear areas where the filling has leaked using damp cloths and prevent dust from forming.
Put on gloves and a mask before placing it in a double bag, together with the gloves, mask and cloths.
Take the item back to your nearest John Lewis branch for a full refund. If you’re unable to reach a store, contact your local council for advice on safe asbestos disposal in your area.

Dunelm recently issued a recall notice for its door stops and draught excluders due to an asbestos risk. In May, 27 items sold between January 2019 and February 2026 were recalled.
