Good Morning Britain descended into chaos as presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid attempted to question Reform UK‘s Zia Yusuf about party leader Nigel Farage stepping down as MP for Clacton, to trigger a by-election, which he will stand in. During Wednesday’s (July 8) episode of the ITV breakfast programme, Ed stated: “Nigel is a parliamentarian, he swore an oath to be a parliamentarian. There’s a man called Daniel Greenberg, who is, I think, judged as the Independent Standards Commissioner to be forensic, independent, entirely non-partisan. It’s his job to do these two investigations.
The broadcaster probed: “Are you saying that you think he is part of the stitch-up, the establishment, the smear? Do you know the man whose job it is to do this investigation is anti-Nigel Farage? That’s a very serious allegation.” As Zia furiously responded: “Ed, you seem to have forensic knowledge of the disciplinary process with regards to parliamentary standards,” Ed interjected: “I do.” The interview took a heated turn as the politician then asked: “Why don’t you tell your viewers, who is it then that makes the determination as to the sanction and punishment if standards find against an MP?”

While Ed argued: “It’s made on the basis of a public report,” Zia left the presenter stuttering as he interrupted: “Who makes the determination?”
The former Labour politician spluttered: “It’s decided by the standards committee, a committee of MPs who made that decision,” but before he could finish, Farage’s right-hand man chimed: “Right, are the MPs not part of that?”
Ed tripped over his words and was left stuttering: “Of course, they’re not part of it.” Zia continued to talk over him and claimed: “I’m pointing out Ed, that’s a bad faith question … the people who cast the punishment certainly not impartial.”
Viewers were left astonished at how the presenters “lost control” of the interview and took to X/Twitter with their reactions, while others slammed Ed for talking over the guest.

One questioned: “Isn’t this supposed to be an interview/discussion? Why do people insist on talking over each other?
Have we lost respect/patience to wait for someone to finish talking before expressing your view/opinion? Not exclusive to #GMB but many other broadcasters too.”
While another brutally claimed: “Ed Balls is not intelligent enough for this discussion… #gmb”
“@ZiaYusufUK fails when scrutinised and just talks over people. @gmb presenters losing control of him. Do better. #GMB,” demanded a third viewer.
Meanwhile one praised: “Zia Yusuf absolutely owning Balls and Reid on #gmb Brutal dominance in the midst of stupid, biased, pointless questioning. Facts matter more than perspective. Well done @ZiaYusufUK @reformparty_uk #reform #farage.”
