One Conversation. One Chance. One Changed Life.

This past Mother’s Day, my little family and I went to IHOP for breakfast—a simple outing, nothing fancy. But what happened just before we walked in is something I’ll never forget.

There was a man sitting by the side of the road, holding a cardboard sign. Car after car passed him by. No one looked twice.

But we stopped.

We handed him a few dollars and struck up a conversation. His name was Michael. He looked tired—like life had been heavy for a long time. And then he said something that hit us hard:

“I appreciate the money, but what I really need is a job. All I have is my bike, but I’ll do whatever it takes to work. I’ve had some tough times, and it’s really gotten me down.”

We ended up talking to him for about an hour. My husband, Tyler, works at a glass company in Southwest Florida called PGT, and he told Michael exactly who to talk to, how to apply, and even gave him our number in case he needed help.

The next morning, Tyler pulls into work—and guess who’s there?

Michael.
He had ridden 30 miles on a bicycle to get there.

Kindness helps homeless man get job

Tyler didn’t hesitate. He brought him inside, helped him through the application process, and introduced him to the right people. That day, Michael was one step closer to getting back on his feet.

And now?
Michael is employed at PGT.
He shows up. He works hard. He’s earning his second chance.

Tyler even took him shopping for clothes and gear so he’d be ready for work. Because sometimes what someone needs isn’t just a job—it’s someone to believe in them long enough to help them stand again.

I’m incredibly proud of my husband—not just for what he did, but for how he did it. With humility. Quiet kindness. Zero judgment.

We always tell our kids, “Be kind. You never know someone’s full story.”
That day, they saw it in action.

A small act of compassion changed a man’s life.
Never underestimate what a single moment of kindness can do. ❤️
