It was a quiet start to the night shift when Officer Cardin spotted a small, trembling shape curled at the base of a lamppost on the corner of Florida Avenue and Pine Street. At first glance, it looked like just a discarded piece of clothing — until it moved.
A tiny kitten, no bigger than a glove, was huddled there, trying to disappear into the shadows. Shivering, wide-eyed, and alone.
